Carolina Performing Arts and UNC?s Department of Art present Liz Magic Laser From North Carolina to South Korea
Work features live stream to Republic of Korea on September 12, 2014
Chapel Hill, NC (September 10, 2014) ?Carolina Performing Arts welcomes Liz Magic Laser for a performance of From North Carolina to South Korea, commissioned by Carolina Performing Arts and UNC-Chapel Hill?s Art Department. The performance comes to the Memorial Hall stage Saturday, September 13 at 8:00 p.m. with a second performance Sunday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m.
Collaborating for the first time, the mother-daughter duo combines the multimedia performance art of Liz Magic Laser with the choreography of Wendy Osserman. The performance will examine the studied gestures of politicians and the actual events shown on the news. Focusing on internet news, Laser and Osserman will look at the effect that posturing and emotional display have on the public?s perception.
The development of this piece took place in part at UNC-Chapel Hill through a residency hosted by the Art Department. The performance will employ live video feeds with green screen effects, repurposing the techniques of news production in order to represent an embodied reception of the news.
In addition to footage culled from the internet, the performance will feature excerpts from an interactive event live-streamed from Carolina Performing Arts to the Nam June Paik Art Center in Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea on September 12, 2014.
?We would like to invite you to attend a special event on Friday, September 12th, 8 p.m. ? 11 p.m.,? said Laser. ?Prior to the multimedia performance, From North Carolina to South Korea, at Carolina Performing Arts, we will host an event which will involve a live-stream conversation between you and an audience at the Nam June Paik Art Center in Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea. Your feedback, recorded via a green-screened video feed, will be incorporated into the performances that follow on September 13th and 14th.?
