Livestream Tips and Tricks

Whether this is your first virtual event with Carolina Performing Arts, or you’re a seasoned pro, here are some tips to keep in mind to have the best possible livestream experience. Can’t find an answer to your question? Contact us.

Finding the Livestream

Our livestreams are available only through a personalized link emailed to each registrant the day of the virtual event. This means that although our livestreams are hosted on YouTube, you will not find them publicly on our channel. You must register for the livestream in advance to receive the link to attend. Please note that recording/filming of virtual events hosted by CPA is not permitted.

Register here for any of our upcoming virtual events.

Supported Systems and Browsers

We recommend the following system versions for viewing virtual events:

  • Windows 7 or higher
  • Mac OS X 10.6 or higher

Our livestream platform supports the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome 45+
  • Mozilla Firefox 49+
  • Safari 10+
  • Microsoft Edge 15+

If your browser is out-of-date or unsupported, please update it before logging on to the livestream for the best viewing experience.

Accessibility and Closed Captioning

If you require Closed Captioning or another accessibility accommodation for any Carolina Performing Arts virtual event, please email us at carolinaperformingarts@unc.edu at least five business days before the event so we can best honor your request.

Closed Captioning for The Spark series is provided by Caption Perfect. Closed captioning is also available for all pre-recorded virtual events streamed on YouTube.

Using YouTube’s Chat Feature

Chat with fellow attendees using YouTube Live’s chat feature during livestream events. For events with audience Q&A, like The Spark With Tift Merritt, this is where you can leave questions to be answered by our artists.

The live chat is located to the right of the livestream and is visible to everyone watching the virtual event, but you must sign into your Google/ YouTube account to post any comments. For more information, check out YouTube’s FAQs.

Connectivity Issues

If you’re experiencing a slow connection during the livestream, we recommend the following:

  • Check your internet connectivity
  • Reload your browser
  • Restart your router
  • Restart your computer
  • Contact your internet service provider to check if there are outages in your area

Disconnected Livestreams

If our livestream disconnects while you’re watching, please check back here for an updated link to continue enjoying the event. We will also send the updated link via email to all registrants.

Additional Questions

Our Box Office is open for phone orders and inquiries each weekday from 12–5 PM; our phone lines will not be staffed during livestream events. If you need to contact us, please email us; we’ll respond to your inquiry as quickly as possible.
